The mission was held to simulate a large-scale earthquake that seriously compromised the surface transportation capabilities in the
West Los Angeles/Santa Monica area. Aircraft from five local airports simulated delivery of critical
medical supplies to the Santa Monica Airport. The Red Cross,
a key participant in the exercise, said in a press release, that the exercise demonstrated ". . .a ground and flight
infrastructure to easily support forty airplanes a day, so making a total Red Cross
“air bridge” capability of forty tons, or eighty thousand pounds of supplies per day
to serve the City of Santa Monica and surrounding cities."
